Meet Jennifer ~
Jennifer's educational interests center around providing quality arts education, particularly for less advantaged public school students. As a Visual Arts Specialist in the Atlantic City, NJ school district since 1992, Jennifer has implemented new programs and community connections to improve arts learning opportunities for her students. She has received the Teacher of the Year Award (1998), the Governor's Teacher Recognition Award (1998), and the Reading Excellence Through the Arts Award (2003). Dually certified in Elementary Classroom and Art Education, Jennifer taught Kindergarten and Third Grade in Atlantic City prior to becoming an art teacher.
In addition to her career as an educator, Jennifer has worked as a professional artist since her undergraduate college days. She has paintings on exhibit locally and in various galleries along the East Coast, and has received numerous awards for her work. Jennifer is also certified as an Interior Designer.
Jennifer began her Walden program in August of 2002, as a Ph.D. student in the General Education program, with a self-designed specialization in Art Education, K-12. She is currently beginning her dissertation research, which will focus on the effects of art education on inner city students. Her master's degree (Master in the Art of Teaching) was earned from Marygrove College, and she received her B.A. (Studies in the Arts) from Stockton College of New Jersey. She graduated from the Sheffield School of Interior Design in New York City in 2001.
