Friends, you might like to visit www.artsonia.com Then go to the second set of boxes, type in New Jersey, then find New York Avenue School in the list. This is Jennifer's school. She has a number of free lesson plans there also! Thanks for being with us - we'll turn out the lights for now and say good night. See you in March!

Update

January 12, 2005

Remember that this meeting is open to any interested colleagues, and we are honored to have the Hawaii chapter with us now. There are a number of items to cover.

OLD BUSINESS
  1. The telephoning of all members—I am sorry we have not yet reached this goal, but we are not dropping it. Life intervenes, and I apologize.
  2. Virtual Walk for PDK - it would still look neat to have some photos of where you live to make a collage for the website in general, and to show some type of support for that walk. What interesting or famous landmarks might you send? Please consider scanning some photos to Gay to be placed on the web (gwiseman@mindspring.com). The chapter would like to give $100. to PDK Intl as our part of gifting the future of education as our part of the virtual walk. PLEASE VOTE on this. [Note from Gay: if you send pics, please be sure to first convert them to jpeg format, and reduce file size to no larger than 100KB. Thanks!]
NEW BUSINESS
  1. Thank you for donating books to Greenfield School in behalf of Susanne's husband. Since it is after the holidays, the books may be on sale. The Amazon link will remain open for one month. After that time, the chapter will donate $300.00. Dorothena can then go to the site to choose the extra books. This gift is standard for our chapter.
  2. PDK Intl. is publishing a membership directory for 2006 honoring PDK's 100th anniversary. Especially as we are the only cyberspace chapter, it will be important for us to support this project. I can get a graphic designer to design our section (free-friend) if we do the half page for $400. (!!Whew!) That one will have pictures, and/or a rocket ship. Business size cards ($100.) are text only. This is open for discussion, and members will be asked to VOTE for your preference, or to vote no if you want nothing.
  3. We have a group of 11 members who have been with us 5 years. Congratulations to them all!! They are as follows: PATRICIA BRESSER, GEORGE BROPHY, PATRICIA EBERLY, HOWARD JACOBS, MICHAEL JUDE, WILLIAM MCELROY, JR., DORIS SWEENEY, CAROLYN WALKER, DIANA WHITE, and GAY WISEMAN. PAULA PEINOVICH, Walden's President, has been a member since 1977!! Certificates have been mailed from PDK Intl. We celebrate this milestone with you!
  4. Joe Pescatrice has sent us a newsletter from his chapter. It seems there are still some Florida schools needing supplies due to the hurricanes. Our chapter is "located" in Florida, and after 4 hurricanes, they do need help. I'd like to send them $200.00. This is open for discussion.
  5. School aid will be sent to the earthquake-tsunami areas as soon as this can be arranged by many PDK chapters. I suggest our chapter add $100.00 to this fund. This is open for discussion.
  6. PDK Intl is also asking for donations to their scholarship set up by George Kersey in the name of his parents and grandparents as an honor to George and his retirement. George is the person who walked us through the process of becoming a chapter. I'd like to send them $100.00. This is open for discussion.

Please discuss these items on the "Chapter Business" page, link at left. Expense items requiring member approval will be decided by vote before the close of the meeting. You may wish to review our operational budget for this year, when considering expense items. We'll notify members by email when the ballot is ready. Thank you!!

Update

January 9, 2005

It is great to be hooked up again and ready to roll! Gay has worked extremely hard to get everything set up and working smoothly, and I really appreciate her talent and perseverence.

Members, please be aware that Dieter Beier, husband of Susanne, our Foundation Representative Officer, died suddenly this Fall. Susanne has resigned but we wanted to honor her husband in some way. Because of his great interest in reading, Jenny has renewed the Greenfield Park School book drive at Amazon. Anything ordered now will be purchased in his memory. Please help by clicking on the button at the left—"2004 Literacy Project: Greenfield Park School's Wish List". It will take you to Amazon, where you will be able to browse and order something that will benefit that school, and honor Susanne's wishes to honor her husband by helping inner city students get books and become better readers!

Then please go to "Officer's Reports and Chapter Business". There are a number of items to cover and to be voted upon. (Please use that page to post everything, except for responses to the Arts in Education program).

After the business comes the pleasure—Jenny will open the Arts in Education program. Invite your colleagues to visit this one!

Huge apologies everyone! It took me a long time to get the pages for this meeting and program prepared and I've gotten us all off schedule, but I hope we can still accomplish our meeting goals.

New Year's greetings, everybody!

December 31, 2004

Welcome to the party attended by the most educated people in the world today!! Through the week we will enjoy learning more about each other by visiting in the party room. There we will be joined (hopefully) by friends around the world, as PDK groups from Hawaii, Guam, and Japan have been invited. Feel free to pass the word to teachers in your area, too, to come in as our guests. There will be gifts and an excellent program on the use of and need for art in the classroom. Be sure to invite your art teachers and their students to come to this program! Student art will be shown, and students are welcome to visit with other students. If you check in approximately every other day, you'll find new information that is sure to be of help to you, as new information will be added regularly. The program will be presented in segments to avoid overload. I look forward to a great week of chatting!
