UPDATE
October 9, 2005
Greetings, Fellow Kappans! Following is a short summary of our meeting for your perusal. Following the reading of it, the meeting is adjourned. We will next meet on New Year's Eve for the Winter Meeting. Thanks for joining us! Marion
- We'll go ahead with the virtual walk & after the walk is done in Chicago, Arthur can send a check to Intl.
- Nobody has offered to go to the conference. I will look at the list I have of names & call any in that area & ask them.
- We will donate the money we have budgeted to Winegard school now & let them get more books. If anyone so chooses, you may order books for them on your own, but we will consider this project complete at this time, and choose a new school in the spring.
- Arthur has an outline for the scholarship, but has not been able to share that yet as his area was affected by Katrina. He will get to us as soon as possible.
- We welcome the 16 new members who requested to join our chapter from SS and will recognize them by name at the next meeting, when we have located all of them.
- If anyone has black female teachers in their schools please give them Rose's email address and ask them to contact her to fill out a short survey for her research project.
- Carol Van De Pol has graciously consented to drop the history job as it is not required, and accepts the job as Foundation Rep, which is required. I will contact Intl.
UPDATE: September 24, 2005
A new report from VP for Membership has been posted on the Officers' Reports and Chapter Business page.
September 19, 2005
Welcome back, everybody! Welcome to a fresh new year, ripe with excitement and anticipation for what lies ahead. Summers are great, but it is always good to get back to a routine which, in a school, is forever new hourly. I wish you all a fantastic year, with all of your dreams fulfilled.
Old Business:
- 1. Virtual Walk: We've been contacted By International to do this again this year. While we considered not doing it last Spring, we have reconsidered, as International is giving all money collected to students, teachers, schools, and communities affected by Katrina. The Walk will be done. We will donate $100.00 in the name of Mary Pullman, the mother-in-law of our VP of Programs, Jenny Pullman. Before she died last week, Mrs. Pullman requested in lieu of flowers, that money be donated to any of the many Katrina victims. Any further monies received for the walk from our chapter will also be in Mrs. Pullman's name. You may send donations directly to:
Dr. Arthur Ogden
[Arthur, what mailing address?]Or, to:
PDK International
408 North Union
P.O. Box 789
Bloomington, IN 47402-0789
Attention: Scott Hutchinson, Walk for Education
(Earmark it from Walden Cyberspace Chapter 1586, in honor of Mary Pullman) - International's yearly meeting/conference will not be held in New Orleans, obviously. It is being held in Chicago. Is anyone interested in attending the event? We can only do a partial pay for costs, but it would be nice if someone in the area could attend and represent us. If less money is spent on travel on the whole, there would be more money for other items.
- Please continue to donate books to Winegard School in FL. Jenny has more on that in her report. I believe we have donated approximately 50 books now, according to the website.
- Treasurer and head of our Scholarship Program, Arthur Ogden, has drafted an outline for our scholarship to be discussed by officers soon. We're moving along, thanks to Arthur! He and his school have been affected by Katrina, but not completely destroyed. We will wait very patiently on him!
- Scott Hutchinson of PDK International went to the Walden Summer Session in Bloomington. He gave a speech and distributed handouts to the Education people, which were well received. Scott was most impressed with Walden, and looks forward to presenting to them again. We are glad that he was able to do this for us, and a letter will be sent to him, thanking him. Twenty-one new members were inducted into PDK while there. Most unfortunately, he did not give them the needed information regarding our Cyberspace Chapter, for none have contacted us, and he doesn't know what happened to them. A search will be conducted to try to find them.
New Business:
- We will hold 3 meetings each year, on this schedule:
Fall (September)
Each meeting will continue until all business is conducted.
Winter (from New Year's Eve into early January)
Spring (May) - Rose Davis, a Walden student, has requested that African American female teachers help her by completing a survey to be used in her KAM. It is brief. Please contact her by emailing her directly . She will email you a copy of the questionnaire as well the guideline definitions.
- Officer's reports are posted. Please read & respond.
- Enjoy the program, and please do take part—that's what makes them so helpful and interesting! Once we're underway with the business discussions, Jennifer Pullman will announce (by email) when our program will begin
As always, thank you for being here! You are appreciated!
Please discuss these topics or any new business you'd like to bring up by clicking the link to the Officer Reports and Chapter Business Discussion page at left.
Thank you!!
