The 2005-06 budget proposal has just been updated with input from the members during this meeting. Please review again, and make any further comments ASAP before we vote on its approval. Discussion continues on the Officer Reports and Chapter Business page. And, don't forget to join the program on Affecting Positive Social Change. Use the links in the sidebar.
URGENT: We need someone to step forward to be our Foundation Representative for this year! Can YOU help?
Spring is leaping right along, with leaves & grass bringing a fresh new look to the world, in many places. It's time to get out & prepare flower beds and get ready for planting. PDK is bouncing right along, too, with new things up & coming. Let's look at Old Business, first.
Old Business:
- Chapter finances:
- Arthur, how is our account status, after paying the many bills since our last meeting?
- Members, please review the budget proposal for 2005-06 and comment.
(This starting proposal for 05-06 is simply the same figures as were approved for this fiscal year, but with a few changes that have been suggested by officers indicated. The approved budgets and actual expenditures for the two prior fiscal years are also shown, for comparison. Below the budget chart is a feedback form for you to make comments, suggestions, corrections. Please help us wisely manage our money. The proposal here is flexible, and will be refined as the discussion progresses. Take part. At the close of the meeting we'll hold a vote on the the refined proposal. Our next fiscal year begins July 1st, so we need to deal with this now.)
- Member email address list (Please comment Gay, Jarek, Theran, anyone...)
- I will order the pins for the past presidents.
New Business:
- Another PDK walk for $100. is set for next fall again; I believe it is now the annual walk. I suggest we not do this again, as we are working on our own scholarship program.
- Will Tokyo attend this meeting, Andre? I believe it is not your regular month in Tokyo. Your group is most welcome, should they so choose.
- Carol has her historian page up—please look at it here. She wrote:
"The historical site is finally up, very very rough, however, I am waiting on names, addresses pictures and quality sites to add. Also, I need a photo of the original PDK pin (green and white). The photo album begins with a winter photo. I look forward to your feedback."
Congratulations, Carol! You have worked a great deal, & I am proud of you for really digging in to a very huge job. - Walden Summer Session: Is anybody at all able to go there? It is our best chance to enroll new members. We get more interest from there than anywhere else. With this being the 30th year, it will be a special time there, too. At this time, I will be having an eye operation no big deal- but I will need 3 weeks recuperation & will look as if I'd been in an awful wreck, so I am definitely out.
- Speaking of that leads us right into the next subject: Dues & new members. Arthur, Jarek, & I have chatted a bit, & here are the main conclusions:
- We have given an added incentive to join - publication of members' work. Barb has written it up in the newsletter, nicely stated. Can anyone else think of any other incentives?
- Gay has mentioned the privilege of a new email address for all members. Shall we put that through now, Gay? Anybody else have thoughts on this?
- Jenny, you had mentioned another perk, but I forget what it was. Will you please refresh me?
- Membership has steadily dropped since our inception. I believe we have had only 2-3 members join this year, although many wrote to Jarek asking for information. Arthur has stated that if we lower our dues from $25.- we will have to cut programs, also. I understand that Intl. has money problems & a greater loss of members; hence, they will continue to ask the individual clubs for more (annual walk, directory, their scholarships, etc.) As we are so far spread across the world, it is very hard to get projects going that will raise money. We have discussed it in the past, & it has gone nowhere. We must look carefully at the budget & determine what we can do to attract more members & then to keep them. We need input from all officers, please. THIS IS VITAL TO OUR SURVIVAL! E. The Nicenet people have discussed asking Intl for an international (lower) dues payment from them. As we are international, too, I will try to jump on their coattails & get a cheaper Intl rate for us, also. Time will tell.
- Program—Educators and Social Change
- Election: Vote to roll over current officers for a second term?
- The WaldenPDK SCHOLARSHIP
We need to step forward and open our dream since inception: our own scholarship (another incentive foR members). It has been suggested it be the Simon/Poppenhagen scholarship, as these two people have been our strongest support at Walden, & it is surely most appropriate. Arthur leads the committee, with Andre as a member, & Charles, if he so desires. Will you do this, Charles? You would be an asset. I too, will be a member. Anybody else will be gladly accepted.
Please contact Arthur, as head honcho.
Please discuss these topics or any new business you'd like to bring up by going to the Officer Reports and Chapter Business Discussion page. Review the proposed 2005-2006 Budget, and share your thoughts. We'll vote on the budget and any other action items before the meeting closes; we'll notify members by email when the discussions have run their course and the ballot is ready. If you are not on the chapter email list, check in every day or two during the meeting period to stay in the loop. If you are a member, and are not already on the emaillist, please send a messageto our Listserve Manager, Theran Mugleston, at
Once we're underway with the business discussions, Jennifer Pullman will announce (by email) that our program on Affecting
