Welcome!

Opening Message from President, Marion Carpenter

November 4, 2006

Fall is here, and I have been with the season - fallin' behind due to family health issues, mostly. However, this has got to be the most exciting year ever! We will initiate the journal & also the scholarships, along with new email addresses for all! These are major milestones which we have dreamed of since before our inception as a chapter - now they are coming true, thanks to much hard work by all of you! Special thanks to Dr. Simon, Jarek, and Doris for work on the journal; Arthur on the scholarships, and Gay & Greg for working on getting the email addresses straightened out. Special thanks and a big welcome to our new "elect" officers for stepping up to the plate - David, Mary, Karine, Candace, Nell, Bianca, and Greg. Also special thanks to Barb, Jenny, Andre, & Charles, who are always ready to help, solid as rocks. Without this entire core group, this chapter would not be such a shining star in PDK. I believe we are the only chapter to have "elect" officers training for next year already - those of you who have just stepped up, you are making history! I'm sure nobody else has an online journal, and after seeing how wonderful our website is, the best website contest was closed as they knew we would win every year. Andre has stepped forward as a representative of Talking Communities, and we congratulate him for that; it will make a good step forward for us, too. It is good to greet all of you again. I am in touch with Intl about cutting our price & will get back with you all.

Heartiest congratulations to Dr. Charles Smith, who, as president of the Augusta, GA branch of the NAACP has been awarded the highest medal of honor offered. In addition, his chapter has won far more awards than any other. He has worked hard for his chapter, and has been aptly awarded. Charles is a past president of our chapter and a present advisor.

If any questions, please contact me. It's great to be with you once more!!

Marion

    5. I have had contact with PDK International regarding a reduction in membership fees for our cyberspace chapter. To do so, every member would need to agree to having no paper mailed to them (this refers to the PDK publications included with membership); instead, to read them, go online to the website (www.pdkintl.org) where you will click on whatever item you wish to read—some are in colored boxes at the bottom; for the rest click on Publications (3rd from bottom) & choose. You need to log in using your member number found on your membership card or on the mailing label of a Kappan magazine. Please contact me if you want a reduction in cost for membership & will switch to using the online publications. Otherwise, I will be calling you (which will be nice, too). THANKS!

As always, thank you for being here! You are appreciated!

Please discuss these topics or any new business you'd like to bring up by clicking the link to the Officer Reports and Chapter Business Discussion page.

Thank you!!
