Report from the Vice President for Programs
Happy New Year ! First, I want to send out the warmest wishes to all for the happiest, healthiest New Year yet! I also want to thank each member of our very special PDK family for the unique and valuable contributions you bring to our organization...and, on a selfish level, to thank you for inspiring me as a person and an educator.
January Program: I have not given up the hope that Dr. Janice Lake Betts will eventually come aboard and host one of our programs, but for now she must remain The Enigma, as we haven't been in touch for the last couple of months. That said, I would like to run with Gay and Marion's thoughts about pooling our collective teaching resources for each other to kick off our first program of 2006. I will gather my own and my teaching colleagues' most useful and reliable website links, with other helpful hints and tools provided, to help make the return to school not only bearable but maybe even more fun. I am calling on the expertise of all members to add on to the list, in any way that you are inspired to! Let's extend the season of giving by sharing what makes our practice easier and more interesting for ourselves and our students, in all realms of the profession, whether as active teachers or as supervising facilitators. What works for you???? This program will be called our "Members' Goldmine of Great Educational Stuff Party". One not to miss!
The Literacy Program: Our 2005 Literacy Project has now concluded, and we all gratefully applaud all the members who generously contributed at the onset of the drive, and then during the "second call" in early Fall. The Wingard School was most appreciative as last year's recipient. Past applicants as well as new are warmly encouraged to enter school names for nomination in 2006. Start considering your own or another deserving school now!!! The winner receives a wishlist of books, hand-picked by the librarian to most appropriately serve the needs of the students at the winning school.
Door Prize! Watch your e-mails for the Door Prize announcement! You may be the lucky recipient of a wonderful post-holiday gift, just by replying to an officer's e-mail—OR—for using any of the disussion boards open during this meeting to post a thought or question.
Ideas for future programs are always welcome, so please share ideas as they arise!
Respectfully,
Jenny

Report from the Secretary
Here is my report as secretary of Walden Phi Delta Kappa Cyberspace.
- Marion welcomed all to our fall meeting on September 27, 2005.
- Gay Wiseman posted the pages for our meeting and requested suggestions and corrections from officers before sharing the pages with our members.
- We engaged in a virtual walk for education, donating $100.00 in the name of Mary Pullman, the mother-in-law of our VP of programs.
- Barbara Hopkins-Cox sent thefall newsletter to all, via email. It received great praise from several officers.
- We donated money to Winegard School to purchase books for the library. We will donate money again in the fall to a school to purchase books as a goal of our literacy program.
- We welcomed 16 new members who joined during Walden's summer session of 2005 in Bloomington, Indiana. PDK's Scott Hutchinson assisted with this success.
- The PDK International conference held in Chicago was not attended by a member in our chapter. No one was available to go.
- Carol Van De Pol will serve as our Foundation Representative, a required position. She had been serving as our historian.
- Rose Davis, a Walden student, requested any African American female teacher to complete a survey which will be included in one of her KAMS.
- Arthur Ogden, our treasurer, is drafting an outline of our scholarship program which will honor Dr. Marilyn K. Simon and Dr. Brent Poppenhagen.
- Jaime Conner was the winner of our fall meeting door prize.
- Marion Carpenter, summarized and adjourned the meeting on October 8, 2005. She urged all to meet again at the 2006 New Year Party.
We concluded our meeting with a vote to approve the budget and the election of officers.
