Minutes of the Officers' Meeting
November 15-19, 2000


27-2000 President Charles J. Smith called the meeting to order on Wednesday, November 15, 2000.

28-2000 Officers in attendance: President Charles Smith, Dr. Marilyn Simon, Theran Mugleston, Andre Elliott, Joyce Griffith-Butler, Dr. Dorothy Hicks, Gay Wiseman, Marion Carpenter.


REPORTS

29-2000 Dr. Marilyn Simon, Faculty Mentor, is in South Africa and will report at a later time on the Mentorship Program.

30-2000 Theran Mugleston, Newsletter Editor, reported no new developments concerning the newsletter. The latest issue was prepared and submitted via e-mail.

31-2000 Andre Elliott, Past president and current Advisor, reported that he and Marion Carpenter will be writing a history of Walden PDK> He also will dialog with Dr. Kersey about service keys for outstanding contributions in service to Walden PDK.

32-2000 Joyce Griffith-Butler, Chapter Delegate, and Marion Carpenter, Alternate Delegate, presented a report on the District VII Conference which they attended. They reported discussion and experiences ranging from public education in action, to PDK goals, to membership qualifications and how to attract more members. They also reported that our Walden Cyberspace Chapter received three awards: Outstanding New Chapter, 20/20 Club Membership, and an award received by Andre Elliott, Shining Star for 3 years' hard work with the Walden Cyberspace Chapter.
President Smith noted his appreciation for the delegate report, and he sent the delegates an on-line greeting card. He also said that he was grateful that our chapter received three awards in our first year of existence as a chapter.

33-2000 Dorothy Hicks, Secretary, submitted the minutes of the last Officers' Meeting of September 13-16, 2000.

34-2000 Joyce Griffith-Butler, Foundation Representative, reported that there are items that need to be addressed: A scholarship committee needs to be formed; one officer and two members are needed as volunteers to serve on the scholarship committee. Six scholarship applications have been distributed, and 8 more are available. She also reported that five Reavis Reading areas are available to be established at sites we elect at no charge to us.

35-2000 Gay Wiseman, Vice President of Programs, announced a change in the program calendar, placing the Online Voting--Methods and Issues in January, and the Report, with discussion, from our delegates to the district conference in November. Gay plans to test a poll of membership in preparation for voting.

36-2000 Dr. Charles Smith, President, presented the Agenda for the November 20-22 Business Meeting.

37-2000 The Officers' Meeting was adjourned at midnight, November 19, 2000.
