General Chapter Meeting December 7, 2003 - January 4, 2004 |
Meeting
|
Welcome!January 2 What a different and wonderful New Year's party we had! We'll have to make that an annual tradition. I really loved hearing from all of you who jumped in. If you missed it, look for it next year and BE THERE! Now, back to business. I would like everyone who hasn't reviewed the six "Ideas for Chapter Improvement" to get to them and take a look. This is YOUR chapter--I am trying to set out some directions for growth and action that I think will benefit us, but I need your feedback. Which of these ideas are good, and should be funded? Which are not so good? Where should we direct our collective energy? Please share your thoughts. Click the top link in the blue bar at the left and then click to each of the 6 ideas. Thanks! December 29 Hello again everyone! We're back in session to wrap up 2003, and to welcome 2004! With the help of one of my college-age sons who's been visiting for Christmas, I think I have got the kinks worked out in the programming for the discussion pages that I've been preparing for this meeting on ways to improve our chapter. Please click here to read about some of the ideas Andre and I discussed in St. Louis, and to share your own thoughts. Gay
December 14 Hello everyone! It is dawn of the day I'd intended to close this meeting, and I still have not been able to post most of the material to the website for discussion that I'd intended to. I apologize. It's been just one thing after another, and I am going to have to let it all go for the time being. But we will resume! My poor jammed thumb will heal and move again, we will all get over the flu, we will get past the flurry of holiday pressures, the weather will mellow out, and the power will come back on (I'm writing this with the last of the battery power on my laptop during a storm-caused outage)... and we will resume! I suggest that we take a break until, still tentatively, Saturday, December 27th. That will give me more time to prepare the rest of the material for the website, and all of us may have a little more time after Christmas to devote to the meeting. I'm not even going to propose a closing date at this point (am I learning?) but we can lead up to and into the New Year with our sharing of ideas for chapter improvement. Thank you all for being here. Thank you all for your wonderful messages of support and appreciation for the work I do for the chapter. Andre pointed out recently that it is the long term, sustained efforts of individuals that are the core of strength of our chapter. It is the power of being in it for the LONG haul--the power of being willing to ride through the bumps and remain committed to our goals, that will assure our success. I am grateful to all of you who are "in it for the long haul" with us, and who won't let small frustrations diminish your determination to help our chapter reach its potential. All the best to you all for a safe and joyful holiday season-- December 7 ... to the December 2003 Walden Cyberspace PDK meeting. We have some guests from other chapters visiting with us this meeting, and some new members joining us for the first time. Hello everyone! I hope this meeting finds you all safe and warm. I wish those simple basics for everyone in our world. And I just learned a formula for living our lives in a way which leads us to that goal. Consistent and unfailing GOOD WILL. That's all. We have to keep wanting the best for each other, consistently and unfailingly. Now that's not too hard, is it? That's the spirit we must nurture within our chapter as well. When we have any confusions or disagreements we must simply remember our common goals, and hold fast to consistent and unfailing GOOD WILL for the chapter. Once again, I am much appreciating the flexibility and freedom our chapter allows us, so that we are able to "ride the tides" of inclement weather, human dramas, holiday frenzy, and the usual daily rush of life and still manage to get to and particpate in Phi Delta Kappa meetings. I myself have come down with a viral bug, as have my kids, and I have not been able to get all the meeting files ready as plannedbut I'll keep working as I'm able and will post new material in the next few days. Please visit the website every couple of days during this meeting week and use the links in the left panel of the Meeting Center to access meeting documents. At our meeting last January, our chapter joined most other chapters in voting "Yes" for the PDK International constitutional revision. The revisions to the international bylaws necessitate some amendments to our own. We have greater freedom now to mold our chapter into exactly what will work best for us. I look forward to working on revision ideas with you, starting during this meeting. Andre and I are also very excited about a project we have started to plan for next year's International Conference. More later on that! Here is a summary of the items on our agenda for this meeting:
Again, I will be loading more material as I can this week.Stay safe everyone, on those slippery winter roads. Gay Wiseman Dutch Flat, California |
